Characteristics of ignition of metals in air under the action of cw laser radiation

Abstract: A study was made of the ignition threshold (in terms of the beam intensity and radius) of a titanium plate subjected to radiation from a YAG laser. It was found experimentally that this threshold varied nonmonotonically. There was a range of laser interaction parameters in which combustion was of stochastic nature.
