Optimization of a BaYb2F8:Er active medium

Abstract:
Measurements were made of the lasing parameters of a concentration series of BaYb2F8:Er crystals at the 1.96μ wavelength of the 4F9/2→4I11/2 lasing transition in the Er ion. It was found that the Er concentration of 8–11% was optimal for 1.96μ lasing. Mechanisms of energy losses due to the Er concentration dependence of the lasing efficiency of BaYb2F8:Er were determined.
