Abstract: A binary optical communication system with amplitude modulation and a photon-counter detector was simulated experimentally. This system implemented an algorithm for the reception of images formed by signals of extremely low intensities. The results of qualitative tests and quantitive estimates were in good agreement with the theory and confirmed the high efficiency of the photon-counting method under these conditions.
