Excitation of ultrashort deformation pulses by absorption of high-intensity optical radiation

V. È. Gusev
Abstract: A theoretical investigation is made of the generation of ultrashort acoustic pulses under conditions of transient ballistic phonon heat conduction due to the absorption of a picosecond light pulse. It is shown that the main contribution to a deformation pulse may be due to phase-matched excitation of acoustic waves in a region linked to the front of a nonequilibrium phonon flux.
