Abstract: An investigation was made of the characteristics of switching and photosensitivity of a reusable optoelectronic storage medium based on planar metal–insulator–semiconductor–insulator–metal structures. Estimates indicate that data can be stored in such a medium with a density in excess of 107 bit/cm2 and the energy needed to record one bit is about 2×10–13 J.
