Abstract:
The first investigation was made of the optical strength of gadolinium scandium gallium garnet (GSGG) crystals doped with both Cr3+ and Nd3+ simultaneously. The high optical strength of these crystals was not affected by irradiation with γ rays. An investigation of the damage statistics led to the conclusion that the microdefects played the dominant role in the optical strength of GSGG:Cr3+:Nd3+ crystals.
