Modulation of argon laser radiation by broadening of an exciton level in a CdS crystal

Abstract: An experimental study was made of modulation of argon laser radiation (λ = 488 nm) by broadening of the n = 1 level of the A exciton in CdS pumped by an electron beam. A relative change of about 100% in the transmission and an absolute change of about 0.4 were observed.
