Xenon as an effective buffer gas in submillimetre lasers based on vibrational – rotational transitions

V. V. Kubarev

G I. Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk
Abstract: It was found xperimentally that xenon is an effective buffer gas for rf-pumped HCN, DCN, and H2O lasers. The greatest effect, which was an increase in the output power and of the efficiency by a factor of 5, was observed for the λ = 189.95 μm line of the DCN laser. In the case of HCN and H2O lasers, xenon increased the values of these parameters by 33%.
