Mode conversion in surface optical waveguides

A. A. Spikhal'skiĭ
Abstract: An analysis is made of the problem of mode propagation along flat and corrugated surface optical waveguides. The dispersion relationships are derived for multilayer surface waveguides. Characteristics of mode attenuation during propagation along corrugated sections of waveguides are considered, as well as the problems of increasing the efficiency of mode conversion into leaky waves, generation of surface electromagnetic waves, and influence of the absorption of light in a metal on the propagation and conversion of surface optical waves.
