Feasibility of construction of a chemical laser utilizing the BX electronic transition in the IF molecule

A. S. Bashkin, M. S. Kurdoglyan, A. N. Oraevsky
Abstract: A model is proposed of chemical pumping of the B3П0+ state of the IF molecules in F–H2–NF2– IF mixtures. This model is used in numerical calculations of the kinetics of the relevant reactions. It is shown that the B→X transition in IF can ensure a high small-signal gain which should be sufficient for lasing. The processes which limit the rate of pumping of the upper active level are identified. Methods for removing such limitations are suggested.
