Immersion method for illumination of the eye with laser radiation
L. G. Kopeĭko, V. L. Varshavskiĭ
Abstract:
A method was developed for illumination of the eye during recording of eye holograms. Use was made of hollow glass illuminators filled with a liquid which had a refractive index equal to that of the optical media of the eye. Then, the calculated levels of illuminance of the eye structures decreased by two orders of magnitude compared with the maximum permissible level of illumination of the eye with laser radiation. Experimental studies on animals demonstrated the absence of damage in any part or tissue of the eye. A study was made of Q-switched illumination of the eye via an immersion medium. This should widen the scope of optical holography in ophthalmology, making it possible to record dynamic processes in the eye under safe conditions.
