Method for estimating the possibilities of optimal reception in detecting astrophysical objects through a turbulent atmosphere

P. A. Bakut, K. N. Sviridov, N. D. Ustinov
Abstract: Expressions are obtained for the probability distributions of the quadratic functionals formed under optimal reception conditions corresponding to real astrophysical observations, taking quantum effects and detection noise into account. These distributions are used to investigate the optimal reception characteristics, and a method is considered for estimating the possibilities of employing such optimal reception to detect astrophysical objects observed through a turbulent atmosphere.
