Spatial evolution of a superradiance avalanche

Full-text PDF (818 kB) Citations (1)
Abstract: A theory of superradiance which allows for spatial variation in the field density is developed. It is found that allowance for spatial variation of the field substantially changes the parameters of superradiance pulses. These results are compared with the results of mode theories of superradiance which use the average number of quanta in the sample volume, and with the results of a semiclassical superradiance theory.
