Control of focusing properties of diffraction elements

Abstract:
A study is made of control of focusing by diffraction elements using an additional degree of freedom. The example of an element with a ring pulsed response is used to show that the problem of synthesis of the phase structure of an element does not have a unique solution and that selection of the nature of the solution can be used to alter the energy distribution function in a given focusing region.
