Determination of the rotational relaxation time of compressed hydrogen

Abstract:
The method of noncoherent active Raman spectroscopy was used to study rotational relaxation in orthohydrogen (J = 3 → J = 1 transition). The dependence of the rotational relaxation time on the hydrogen pressure was determined. At 1 atm the rotational relaxation time was 26 ± 2 nsec.
