Collisions of He and Ne with Ne* in a helium–neon laser emitting at λ = 0.63 μ

Abstract:
The Lamb dip was used in a study of the dependences of the emission line half-width γ1 and of the homogeneous broadening parameter γ2 of the active medium in a helium–neon laser on the pressures p of helium and neon. The pressure dependence of γ1 was linear and its pressure coefficients were dγ1/dpHe = 58 ± 3 MHz/torr and dγ1/dpNe = 74 ± 4 MHz/torr. The parameter γ2 varied linearly with the neon pressure (dγ2/dpNe = 53 ± 10 MHz/torr) and nonlinearly with the helium pressure.
