Feasibility of frequency synthesis from the microwave to the optical range with the aid of a single nonlinear element

Abstract:
It is shown theoretically that a superconducting point contact placed in a resonator, and exhibiting both the Josephson nonlinearity and the nonlinearity characteristic of a metal–oxide–metal diode, can be used to multiply a microwave frequency right up to the optical range.
