Influence of additional ultraviolet illumination on breakdown of alkali halide crystals by CO2 laser radiation

Abstract:
The threshold of damage of NaCl crystals by CO2 laser radiation decreased as a result of simultaneous ultraviolet illumination. The results were regarded as a direct experimental confirmation of the avalanche breakdown mechanism.
