Compensation of dispersion distortions in single-mode fiber waveguides by a parametric time lens
Yu. A. Kravtsov, A. I. Minchenko
Abstract:
It is suggested that parametric frequency conversion, in which a diverging beam of rays distributed in space and time is converted into a converging beam, can be used for compensation of dispersion-induced distortions of a signal in a single-mode fiber waveguide. The proposed compensation system is a time analog of the compensation of the diffraction divergence of wave beams carried out by conventional lenses. It is shown that parametric "lenses" can be established with an error of the order of the dispersion length of the waveguide, i.e., with an error equal to the maximum permissible waveguide length in the absence of compensation.
