Stability of self-locking of two modes

Abstract: The conditions for stable operation of a gas laser are derived theoretically for the regime of selflocking of two orthogonally polarized longitudinal modes. The nature of the polarization of the output field is established as a function of the momenta of the laser-active transition levels. Estimates are obtained of the maximum permissible difference between the Q factors of the locked modes.
