Theory of a two-layer hologram

B. Ya. Zel'dovich, T. V. Yakovleva
Abstract: A theoretical investigation is made of the reconstruction of an image from a hologram consisting of two thin light-sensitive layers. The diffraction efficiency and the selective properties of such a hologram are calculated. It is shown that two-layer holograms are characterized by interference of the images produced by each layer and this makes it possible to increase considerably the diffraction efficiency and to improve the spectral and angular selectivity compared with conventional planar holograms.
