Abstract: The example of a semiconductor is used in an analysis of high reflection efficiencies of waves with a reversed wavefront and small frequency differences. It is shown that critical phenomena can occur at high reflection efficiencies and these include optical hysteresis, multistability, and "lasing," controlled by the frequency difference (detuning) between the interacting waves.
