Amplification of picosecond pulses in a synchronously pumped dye laser

Abstract: A theoretical investigation is made of the dynamics of generation of a single picosecond pulse in a "nontransmitting" resonator of a dye laser pumped synchronously with pulses. It is shown that the energy of a single picosecond pulse circulating inside such a resonator may exceed severalfold the energy of any pulse in a pump train. The results are given of an experimental investigation which confirmed the theoretical predictions.
