Abstract: An investigation was made of piezoelectric vibrations in gallium arsenide crystals used in infrared radiation modulators. It was found that the longitudinal vibrations were damped more efficiently than the shear vibrations. Damping of an electrooptic crystal with Wood's alloy produced a modulator with a more uniform frequency characteristic.
