Transverse pumping of a Raman laser

Abstract: A theoretical analysis is given of the dependences of the output parameters of a Raman laser on the geometry of the pumping beam. It is shown that efficient steady-state stimulated emission occurs in two cases of practical importance: when the lateral surface of the active zone is pumped by a converging beam, or when this zone is pumped longitudinally at an angle with respect to the resonator axis.
