Abstract: A description is given of a cw waveguide CO2 laser for which the output power per unit discharge length reached 0.5 W/cm. A combined pumping scheme is discussed, utilizing dc and rf discharge currents. It is noted that the waveguide material (BeO ceramic) participated in the plasma-chemical reactions of the laser active mixture.
