Abstract: Dye No 3955 was used as an illustrative example in an experimental investigation of the amplitude (bleaching) and phase (change in the refractive index) components of the nonlinear response of dye solutions which appeared under the action of picosecond light pulses and was due to saturation of the absorption band. An analysis was also made of the propagation of light pulses in dye solutions allowing for their phase response.
