Quantitative analysis of the propagation of light in inhomogeneous anisotropic waveguides

E. A. Kolosovskii, D. V. Petrov, I. B. Yakovkin
Abstract: A method is suggested for finding the field distributions and the dispersion relationships describing the effective refractive index of anisotropic graded-index planar waveguides with arbitrary parameters of the waveguide layer and an arbitrary initial optical anisotropy. An analysis is made of the characteristics of leaky modes in three types of currently used inhomogeneous waveguides formed on the surfaces of anisotropic materials.
