Abstract:
Comparative calculations are made on the subject of lasing due to the 4F3/2–4I13/2 and 4F3/2–4I11/2 transitions in a YAG:Nd3+ crystal in the Q-switching regime. Characteristics of extracavity and intracavity generation of the second harmonic of the fundamental-frequency radiation of wavelength 1.318 μ in a lithium niobate crystal are considered. An extracavity conversion frequency of ~48% is reported. Recommendations are given on the construction of a YAG:Nd3+ laser utilizing the 4F3/2–4I13/2 transition.
