Dissociative excitation of the B2Σ+1/22Σ+1/2 states of mercury monohalides by electron impact

A. N. Malinin, A. K. Shuaibov, V. S. Shevera
Abstract: An investigation was made of the process of excitation of HgCl22, HgBr22, and HgI22 by electron impact producing B2Σ+1/22Σ+1/2 states of HgCl, HgBr, and HgI. The maximum values of the cross sections for dissociative excitation were found at low electron energies; the values of these cross sections were σ=(6±3)×1018σ=(6±3)×1018, (7.5±3)1017(7.5±3)1017 см22, and (1.2±0,6)1017(1.2±0,6)1017 cm22 for HgCl, HgBr, and HgI, respectively. The role of such dissociative excitation in lasing was analyzed.
