Maximum loads on pulse-discharge light sources producing short flashes

V. M. Podgaetsky, B. V. Skvortsov
Abstract: An experimental investigation was made of the maximum energy loads on and the service life of pulse-discharge tubular xenon lamps producing flashes of τ = 10–100 μsec duration. The investigation was carried out under a wide range of conditions. The relationship between the maximum loads on the lamps and their construction parameters was determined. The influence of the pressure of the filler gas in the lamps on their failure and the range in which this pressure could be varied were found. An expression was obtained for the relationship between the typical service life and the pressure of gases in the lamps.
