Abstract:
An optical reactor for efficient laser processing of disperse materials is proposed. This reactor is a stable optical cavity with an aperture for introducing laser radiation. The wave approximation is used to calculate the optical characteristics of disperse particles and the spatial distribution of an electromagnetic field inside a reactor filled with a homogeneously scattering and absorbing medium. Heating of carbon and graphite-like particles in the field of infrared laser radiation is considered by way of example and the conditions needed for laser conversion of such particles into ultradisperse diamond are determined.
