Size of the sensitive area and distribution of the photocurrent in an integrated-optical detector with coupled waveguides

Abstract:
It is shown that monolithic structures with two coupled waveguides can ensure effective utilization of the absorbing surface of a large-area photodetector. The linear dimensions of this surface in the direction of propagation of the radiation depend only on the parameters of the waveguides themselves and can be varied within wide limits. The distribution of the photocurrent in the same direction is sinusoidal.
