Influence of multiphoton ionization on nonlinear frequency conversion in gases

V. G. Arkhipkin, Yu. I. Heller
Abstract: A study is made of the influence of resonant multiphoton ionization and of the saturation effect on the efficiency of a parametric interaction in gaseous media. Two cases are analyzed separately: generation of short-wavelength radiation when the frequency of the output wave corresponds to a transition from the ground state to a continuum and conversion of infrared radiation. The optimal conversion conditions are identified.
