Abstract: It was established experimentally that the maximum value of the diffraction efficiency of a grating formed as a result of irradiation of the surface of a solid with high-power laser radiation pulses was greater in the second diffraction order than in the first. Two mechanisms of the processes likely to participate in the formation of the gratings were suggested.
