Abstract:
An analysis of the rate equations is used to demonstrate that, in principle, it should be possible to invert the populations of fine-structure levels of the Br atom in the course of photodissociation of bromine iodide with solar radiation. The threshold conditions for lasing are calculated. A way of constructing a laser system is suggested. The forecast value of the efficiency of such systems is ~0.5%.
