Ionization and expansion of a multiply charged laser plasma

A. V. Vinogradov, V. N. Shlyaptsev
Abstract: An analysis is made of the hydrodynamics and ionization of matter in the process of interaction of laser radiation with targets made of heavy elements. An approximate method is developed to allow for the effects of ionization and a study is made of the influence of ionization on the hydrodynamic parameters of a plasma. Distributions of the electron density and temperature, and of the charge composition of a laser plasma are obtained.
