Abstract:
A seed of ~5×5×5 mm dimensions was used to grow ADP crystals of ~10×10×10 cm size by crystallization from a solution at a rate 10–20 times higher than usual. The anomalous biaxiality of the crystals did not exceed ~20', which was of the same order of magnitude as the value reported for goodquality crystals prepared by slow growth. A growth rate of ~1 cm/day should make it possible to prepare nonlinear crystals with large cross sections of the kind needed in laser thermonuclear fusion research.
