Calculation of the parameters of a laser beam transmitted by a focusing rod

Expressions are derived for relating the parameters of a laser beam at the entry and exit of a focusing rod with a parabolic refractive index profile. The derivation is made by using the framework of paraxial geometric optics and by modeling a laser beam by a ray packet equivalent in results to the Kogelnik model.
