Suppression of acoustic vibrations in electrooptic Q switches

Abstract:
It was established experimentally that acoustic processes in electrooptic Q switches (in the form of a crystal inside a holder made of a high-density glass) induced by pulsed periodic switching were comparable in respect of the intensity with similar processes in the case when a crystal was held in a specially developed plastic characterized by a high acoustic resistance. The use of such a plastic holder made it possible to simplify greatly the technology of fabrication of Q-switch holders capable of damping acoustic vibrations. A study was made of the acoustic processes observed when electrodes of special shape were used. These electrodes in combination with a damping coating made it possible to reduce the acoustic vibrations to the level corresponding to a clamped crystal.
