Abstract: A calculation is made of the polarization at the doubled frequency on the assumption that the inversion symmetry of a nematic liquid crystal is D∞h. Explicit expressions are obtained for the dependence of the effective susceptibility on the molecular hyperpolarizabilities and on the orientational order parameters.
