Abstract: A self-similar solution is obtained of a modified Schrödinger equation for the description of self-compression (or decompression) of a pulse exhibiting initial phase modulation and propagating in a nonlinear nonconservative medium. The spatial dependence of the gain (absorption coefficient) is calculated.
