Abstract:
A model of an electron-beam-pumped XeF (B–X) laser is proposed. This model predicts time dependences of the output power in different spectral intervals in qualitative agreement with experiment and also integrated emission spectra which demonstrate the experimentally observed qualitative dependences on the active medium temperature and the pump power. It is shown that one must include the rotational relaxation of the XeF molecule when calculating the XeF (B–X) laser emission spectrum and a method is proposed for taking account of a departure from a rotational equilibrium. An increase in the laser efficiency with rising temperature is explained by a redistribution of the populations of the vibrational X states and by amplification of the laser radiation due to the spectrally overlapping electronic–vibrational transitions 1–4 and 0–2.
