Laser heating of a surface inhomogeneity as a method of creating an amplifying medium for an x-ray laser

Abstract:
An analysis is made of a new variant of an experiment involving laser heating of a target in order to create a nonequilibrium (supercooled) plasma. Estimates show that it is a promising method for construction of a recombination x-ray laser utilizing 3–2 transitions in hydrogen-like ions.
