Influence of fluctuations of laser radiation on the formation of ultrashort-period gratings in inhomogeneously broadened media

Abstract:
A theoretical investigation is reported of the influence of laser fluctuations on the formation of ultrashort-period population-inversion gratings in the case of an inhomogeneously broadened resonant transition. It is shown that such gratings may be formed in a narrow spectral interval and that their amplitude always obeys the normal distribution for different spectral isochromats.
