Nonlinear optical effects and devices

Investigation of the characteristics of an RAC-n-UP laser

N. I. Zheludev, A. V. Zotov, A. I. Kovrigin, D. Yu. Parashchuk
Abstract: An investigation was made of an RAC-n-UP (RAman Continuum and UP converter) laser based on a combination of two nonlinear processes: generation of a spectral continuum in an optical fiber waveguide and spectrally selective up-conversion in a KTP or LiIO3 crystal pumped by a quasi-cw picosecond YAG laser. The investigated laser generated pulses tunable in the range 532–572 nm and of duration amounting to several tens of picoseconds; the peak power of these pulses was up to 500 W.
