Abstract:
An electron-beam-controlled XeCl laser is described; it was based on a commercial Model 1710 laser and it emitted long optical output pulses of duration 180 ns with an energy of 140 mJ and 250 ns with an energy of 30 MJ. When the laser was used for coupling the radiation into a fiber, an energy of 40 mJ was obtained at the exit of a 520-μm diameter quartz fiber. An electrical circuit was used to investigate the spectral narrowing of the output radiation and to study construction of a single-frequency master oscillator.
