Physical processes in laser media

Changes in the spatial geometry of the line radiation due to the 1s2 1S0–1s2p1P1 transition in Mg XI under the action of buffer gases in laser plasma experiments

S. P. Zhukov, V. V. Korukhov, B. I. Troshin, A. A. Chernenko
Abstract: It was demonstrated experimentally that the introduction of a buffer gas into the vacuum chamber altered the observed geometric parameters of the expansion of a plasma in the presence of resonance line radiation of Mg XI. The results were interpreted assuming preferential excitation of the 1s2p1P1 level of Mg XI not by electron impact from the ground state, but by excitation via recombination processes.
