Abstract:
The operation of a chemical oxygen–iodine laser with a drop-jet generator of singlet oxygen, operating at pressures up to 90 Torr, was demonstrated. When the active-gas pressure in the generator was 70 Torr, the output power was 90 W, the chemical efficiency was up to 10%, and the specific power obtained from a unit area of the generator was 80 W cm-2. The interaction of drop jets with a gas flowing at a high velocity resulted in partial drag of the gas by the jets and in a considerable fall of the pressure in the reaction zone. A counterflow generator ensured the removal of the drop aerosol from the active gas and the transfer of heat to the solution during relaxation of high-pressure O2(1Δ).
