Control of laser radiation parameter
Influence of resonant radiation trapping on the characteristics of ring gas lasers
È. G. Pestov
Abstract:
The influence of resonant radiation trapping (RRT) on the amplitude and frequency characteristics of ring gas lasers was analyzed for arbitrary polarization vectors of the counterpropagating waves in a magnetic field of arbitrary direction. It is shown that the influence of the trapping alters the dependence of the wave intensities on the detuning of the ring resonator and gives rise to an additional intensity difference between the counterpropagating waves. In a magnetic field the trapping induces nonlinear shifts of the beat frequency of the counterpropagating waves which have a specific dependence on the resonator detuning. The main contribution to the various effects is made by the longitudinal component of the external magnetic field vector. Single-mode lasing was studied in the Doppler approximation taking into account the nonlinear deformation of the wave polarization vectors.
